Welcome!

Welcome to the Porch Stories section of Palmetto Places — where E.B. and Opa share porch tales, memorable “thrifting treasure,” and the almost-true lore that gives South Carolina its heart. From the Upstate to the Lowcountry, we chase tales, seek treasures, and visit towns that still shine with grace and good humor.

Sometimes we travel the “Holy Highway” to find them; other times, they just seem to find us.

You’ll meet colorful characters like Bubba Chef Joe, Mother Martha, Junebug Haddy, and Snugfoot Driggers. You’ll also be treated to Bubba Chef Joe’s amazing recipes born from his backyard bistro and other outdoor kitchens all around the Palmetto State. You’ll laugh a lot too as you rediscover the beauty of the Palmetto State you thought you already knew!

“Almost True” Stories and Lore Await You!

There’s no better place to hear South Carolina stories than on a porch out in the country. Our “STORY PORCH” is at the Palmetto Barn located in the Bull Swamp very close to the rich banks of the Edisto River.

Porch Stories celebrates the people, places, and porch talk that make the Palmetto State one of a kind.
