Palmetto Silhouettes

Introducing Palmetto Silhouettes …
Some places speak softly.
Palmetto Silhouettes are black-and-white reflections of South Carolina’s most beloved places—riverwalks, bridges, lighthouses, churches, and quiet town landmarks. Each silhouette focuses on shape, balance, and stillness, inviting the viewer to pause and remember what makes these places so special. And we generally put a “wonky” Palmetto Tree in each silhouette for fun too!
We’re working on a five-silhouette series right now. We’re calling this series Riverwalks and Waterfronts. It will include the Georgetown Harborwalk (above), Cayce Riverwalk (below), and waterfronts in Conway, Beaufort, and Little River (still in the works).
Timeless Scenes from South Carolina

What We’re Planning ...
We have loved South Carolina landscapes ever since we first met Jim Harrison and spent time with him in his studio in Norway, South Carolina. He has been a tremendous inspiration to us and we still miss him a lot. We have also loved “silhouette art” from the very first time we saw some South Carolina silhouettes crafted by Clay Rice. He truly is the master of silhouettes. We are one of the many inspired ones who come behind Clay Rice, doing our own thing in black and white.
Our Palmetto Silhouettes are crafted by Opa. That’s a pen name his grandchildren gave him. Opa spent most of his life drawing cartoons and caricatures—until he stumbled on silhouette art in a little gift shop in Pawleys Island. That changed how Opa saw the world, probably forever.
These days, E.B and Opa are riding the highways and byways of the Palmetto State in search of her thrifting treasures and his iconic places that are well-suited for silhouette art. We’re planning to focus our silhouette art on the topics below, at lease, for now—but we do respond to God’s inspiration. So check back periodically to see what the “latest list” looks like. Here is the current list:
Bridges and Crossings — we’ve already done the Georgetown Harborwalk and the Cayce Riverwalk. Still to come are the Conway, Beaufort, and Little River silhouettes and some marsh views and boat landings too.
Lighthouse and Coastal Places — we’re finishing up on the Hunting Island Lighthouse, and still to come are the Hilton Head Rear Range and an assortment of coastal icons.
Churches & Sacred Spaces — we’ve begun Stella Maris Church on Sullivan’s Island, and we’ll be doing some great old (and new) churches around the state, including the iconic places that photographers and other artists like to visit.
Historic Town Landmarks — this topic (category) includes great, old town halls, market buildings, and notable streetscapes in both bigger cities and quaint small towns too.
Greeting Cards and Affordable Art …
So what will we do with all that? For starters, we’re putting them up on Pinterest. We just started doing that, so if you happen to see this page soon after we publish it, you probably won’t find much there. But that will change rather quickly because we’re passionate about doing this project.
We’re also planning to make the Palmetto Silhouettes artwork available on ETSY (our store is PalmettoBarn). We will put the artwork on greeting cards and postcards. And we might make them available as small pictures (for tabletops and fireplace mantels) too. And yes … our ETSY is in just about the same state as our Pinterest for now. The store is up, but we haven’t uploaded a lot of items yet. We plan to start loading the ETSY store with Palmetto Silhouettes during the first few months of 2026.
Our Story …
So find us on the “Palmetto Silhouettes” board for Palmetto Places. That’s on Pinterest. Follow us on Facebook (RomWebster, PalmettoPlaces, CatholicRoads, and Reach One Media). We’re also on Instagram.
That’s our story, folks (at least for now), and we’re sticking to it. May God bless you richly.
