A One Day Nuns’ Retreat

A DAY WITH SOUTH CAROLINA’S SISTERS OF FAITH
Every now and then, a story comes along that reminds us what joy and devotion look like in everyday life. The “Nuns’ Retreat” at The Minor Basilica of St. Peter in Columbia, South Carolina is one of those stories. On November 15, about fifty nuns from across the Palmetto State will gather for a full day of reflection, learning, and fellowship.
Be sure to visit the Gallery (BELOW). We should be adding caricatures soon after November 15, God willing!
About The Nuns’ Retreat
Leading the retreat is Sr. Margaret, a member of the Daughters of St. Paul, whose mission it is to share the Gospel through media and communication. Sr. Margaret’s theme for the day centers on how modern tools—like social media, digital publishing, and video storytelling—can be used to spread messages of faith, hope, and love.
It’s all done in the spirit of St. Paul, who is known as the great evangelizer, missionary, and writer in the New Testament.
Where E.B and Opa Fit Into All This
And while Sr. Margaret speaks, two familiar faces from Palmetto Places will be there too—E.B. and Opa—sketching and smiling among the Sisters. Their goal isn’t to teach, but to see—to capture the spirit, grace, and humor of these women of faith through art. Throughout the day, Opa will create caricatures of the nuns, each one drawn with affection and respect. The result will become a joyful visual record of this rare and holy gathering—a gallery of “smiling faces in sacred places.”
The Nuns’ Retreat Gallery
The finished portraits and digital caricatures will appear here in the Nuns’ Retreat Gallery, part of our PALMETTO FACES collection on the SC Towns website. Each illustration will tell its own story of faith, friendship, and devotion to Christ, right here in the heart of South Carolina.
Our Story
We’re still preparing for this very special event! Pray for us please. And pray for Sr. Margaret and the 50 or so amazing nuns who serve here in the Palmetto State and who will converge on the Minor Basilica of St. Peter soon.
And by all means, don’t forget to pray for Fr. Gary Linsky, the pastor at St. Peter’s—and the whole team there too!
Stay tuned as we share the laughter, love, and beauty that filled this special day.
